Hero Bystander Helped Apprehend Suspect Accused of Throwing 5-Year-Old Off Mall of America Balcony

Hero Bystander Helped Apprehend Suspect Accused of Throwing 5-Year-Old Off Mall of America Balcony

Police are thanking a bystander who stepped up to stop a fleeing suspect arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide after allegedly throwing a 5-year-old boy from the third floor of the Mall of America in Minnesota on Friday.

More than $500,000 had been donated by Monday morning to a GoFundMe campaign launched by a family friend to assist in the care of the boy, who “is still continuing to fight his courageous battle,” according to an update posted Sunday to that site, which describes the boy as “a strong survivor.”

PEOPLE is not identifying the boy, whose first name is Landen, by his last name at the family’s request.

The suspect, 24-year-old Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, was known to authorities and previously had been barred for a time from the mall in 2015 for offenses that included disorderly conduct and damage to property, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said at a news conference Saturday.

“We feel confident saying that the suspect threw the child off of the third floor, but as to why he did that, it is still something that we’re looking into and trying to figure out,” he said.

“One witness who witnessed the incident tried to stop the suspect from fleeing, and so we’re very appreciative of his efforts to try to intervene and help out in a very difficult situation,” Potts said.

Authorities ultimately detained the suspect at the mall’s transit station. He currently is being held in the Hennepin County Jail pending action by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office on formal charges, the chief said.

The suspect and the victim were unknown to each other, he said.

“He is the sweetest kindest 5-year-old you will ever meet,” the family friend wrote in describing Landen on the GoFundMe page. “His soul is soft and gentle and instantly brings a smile to everybody he meets.”

Police responded to the incident at the mall at 10:17 a.m. Friday.

“There is video,” said the police chief, who added that he estimated the child had fallen about 40 feet from the third to the first level of the mall.

“As you can imagine, that’s a pretty high fall,” he said.

Potts added: “When it’s involving a young child like that, it’s pretty gut-wrenching for everybody involved.”

He declined to speculate on the suspect’s mental health history, but noted that in the suspect’s prior brushes with law enforcement, “it looks like some of those cases were handled through the mental health court, but still ultimately he was convicted of those cases.”

In July 2015, Aranda was taken into custody after police responded to a call about a man “throwing things off of the upper level of the mall to the lower level,” according to local TV station WCCO, which cited a 2015 complaint stating Aranda initially resisted arrest and refused to give his name to police.

An employee from the Bare Minerals store went on to tell police that Aranda had “walked into the store, and without saying anything, swept his hand across a display table, knocking off and breaking two containers of lip gloss valued at $18.00 each and three shot glasses valued at $2.00 each,” the outlet reported.

Court records obtained by PEOPLE show that Aranda was convicted of fifth-degree assault and interfering with an officer of the peace, and was ordered not to return to the property for one year.

That August, Aranda was arrested without incident after police responded to a call that a man had been seen smashing computer parts at a local library, according to court documents obtained by WCCO.

In the 2015 complaint, police note that Aranda told officers he got “angry after he read something on the Facebook.”

Court records obtained by PEOPLE show that Aranda pleaded guilty to the charge of first-degree property damage and was sentenced to serve 28 days in prison, pay restitution and undergo anger management training.

In October 2015, Aranda was arrested for a third time after allegedly throwing drinks at a woman in a restaurant located inside the Mall of America, according to court documents obtained by WCCO.

According to the complaint, Aranda repeatedly asked a woman to buy him “something to eat or at least give him some money,” and after being asked to leave by a restaurant employee, he allegedly grabbed full glasses of ice water and tea, throwing them at the woman.

Court records obtained by PEOPLE show that Aranda pled guilty to fifth-degree assault and interfering with an officer of the peace.

It could not be determined if he had obtained an attorney to speak on his behalf regarding the current allegation.

Justin Bieber Tells Billie Eilish She Has a 'Long and Bright Future' as She Finally Meets Him

Billie Eilish may be the biggest celebrity Belieber — and she finally got to meet Justin Bieber!

Eilish’s Coachella weekend was full of memorable highlights, not only because she performed on Saturday, but also because she crossed paths with some of her favorite pop stars — most notably Bieber after he commented on her Instagram with a “Yooo check ur dm gurl.”

“So, this happened… Long and bright future ahead for you,” the 25-year-old singer captioned a photo of him and Eilish, 17, during Ariana Grande’s headlining set on Sunday.

Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, also captured the meeting, which he shared on Instagram Monday. “Beautiful moment. She finally met the kid! @wherearetheavocados @justinbieber,” Braun wrote along with a video that showed Eilish’s shocked reaction.

Also in the footage, Bieber and Eilish shared a long hug, which Braun later called “magic” on his Instagram Story.

The feelings may be mutual: Bieber tweeted, “Proud of you @billieeilish,” early Sunday morning following her late night set.

Eilish’s mother also expressed thanks to Bieber. “This night! Thank you @justinbieber for making this perfect moment for Billie,” actress Maggie May Baird wrote on Instagram along with a photo of her daughter hugging Bieber.

“Words will never express how grateful we are to you for all that you have meant to Billie and for being such a huge part of our lives,” Baird said.

Meanwhile on Monday, Eilish alluded to her meeting with Bieber on Instagram Story with a lengthy message about her Coachella experience.

“Part of me feels like I need to post about all the things that happened yesterday… but right now I think I’m gonna keep it all as my own for now,” she wrote. “These are my memories.”

Eilish added, “Some of the most life changing things I’ll ever experience happened over the weekend. And I don’t want a bunch of pictures to have to prove that to anybody. Understand how moved I am. I don’t know how to process and relay the love I feel for the people I feel it for. I feel full thank you.”

During weekend one, Eilish also met Grande, Bieber’s wife Hailey Baldwin, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry, who shared their interaction on Instagram, writing: “We must protect @wherearetheavocados, beings like her don’t enter our orbit often.”

Though she made many new famous friends, Eilish, no doubt, most excited to meet Bieber.

The “Ocean Eyes” singer has never shied away from expressing her admiration for Bieber, even calling him “my first love,” during a November 2018 radio interview with KROQ’s Kevin and Bean Show.

“When I was, like 12, I was not a fan of him….That was, like, my first love,” she said. “That was the person I was in love with. In my head, he was in love with me. It was, like, a relationship with a person.”

Bieber recently followed Eilish on Instagram, initially sliding into her DMs with a throwback.

“The first thing he sent was a screenshot of a DM I sent him in 2014,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “You know how when you follow somebody, you can see everything they DM’d you in the past? It, like, it felt good and it felt bad at the same time.”

And last month, Eilish told Ellen DeGeneres she still has a soft spot for the singer. “He’s amazing. He’s so sweet and, like, I feel — just, honestly, I feel for him, man. He’s been through a lot, dude.”

Trump Says He's Giving Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom After 'His Incredible Success & Comeback'

Trump Says He's Giving Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom After 'His Incredible Success & Comeback'

President Donald Trump tweeted Monday that he plans to give Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor — in recognition of his “incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE.”

On Sunday Woods, 43, won the Masters Tournament for the fifth time, a surprising reversal of what had been a years-long slide for the country’s most famous golfer.

He walked off the course to an ecstatic response from assembled fans and his friends and family, including his two young children.

“It’s hard to comprehend right now. I mean, honestly, it’s only been a few hours out of winning the tournament,” Woods told CNN later Sunday. “I’m still trying to enjoy it and figure out that I actually won it.”

“I know I have the green jacket on but it’s just, it’s still, I think it’s going to take a little bit of time to sink in,” he added, referring to the iconic jacket awarded to the Masters winner each year.

In his Monday tweet, President Trump said he and Woods had spoken after the Masters win and Trump congratulated him on his “great victory.” The two have been friendly over the years and golfed together earlier this year.

Last summer, Woods said he and Trump have known each other “a number of years.”

“He’s the President of the United States,” Woods said. “You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is customarily awarded to a range of figures including artists, business leaders, philanthropists and politicians. Last year Trump awarded medals to, among others, Sen. Orrin Hatch and the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Woods was a trailblazing figure in golf in the ’90s and well into the ’00s where he racked up major win after major win. But the revelation that a series of women said they had affairs with him while he was married to Elin Nordegren seriously damaged his image, and a series of back problems and surgeries imperiled his athletic performance.

In 2017 he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida and subsequently pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

His Masters win on Sunday bumped him from No. 12 in the world rankings to No. 6, according to Golf.com. In December 2017, in the wake of his guilty plea and various surgeries, he was ranked No. 1,999.

Ankylosing Spondylitis Affects 2 to 3 Million Americans — Why Don’t More People Know About It?

Ankylosing Spondylitis Affects 2 to 3 Million Americans — Why Don’t More People Know About It?

Ankylosing spondylitis is considered a common condition, affecting 2 to 3 million Americans with around 20,000 new diagnoses each year. But the chronic, inflammatory condition is still relatively unknown, a major problem for an illness that only gets worse the longer it goes undiagnosed.

For many people with the condition, like Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds, they were only diagnosed after years of pain — and then had never heard of ankylosing spondylitis, or AS.

“Not only did I not know what AS was, but for a lot of doctors it’s not the first thing they think of,” Reynolds tells PEOPLE.

Part of the problem, explains Dr. Suleman Bhana, fellow of American College of Rheumatology, is that AS — which typically starts with consistent back pain and stiffness — is difficult to diagnose.

“It is challenging. It has to be individualized by person,” he tells PEOPLE. “We go through their medical history and a physical examination to discover the origin of their back pain — when it started, how it started and their relationship to their symptoms of inflammation. When they wake up in the morning, is their stiffness lasting 45 minutes or longer? Are there other types of arthritic disease like swelling of the joints — that could be a clue. And we check for any systemic symptoms — eye symptoms, bowel symptoms, skin symptoms — that may be connected.”

Unlike other diseases where a simple lab test or x-ray can lead to a clear diagnosis, AS requires an in-depth conversation.

“The full history and physical exam are really 80 percent of the diagnosis — it’s very important,” Bhana says. “And then we do a variety of lab and diagnostic tests. But rheumatic diseases are challenging in that it’s not like appendicitis where you can get a CAT scan and you know within a few minutes and how to treat it. You look for levels of evidence.”

AS affects both men and women, but mostly men, and the symptoms start at a young age, under 45 years old.

“Because back pain is a symptom and a common pain complaint in general, their symptoms may begin below 45 but they may not get diagnosed until well after, which can be very problematic,” Bhana says. “We want people to get evaluated sooner and earlier by rheumatologists, because that gives them the best opportunity for better outcomes.”

And the longer people go without a diagnosis spells bigger trouble.

“The untreated disease can be very challenging,” Bhana says. “It can lead to more pain, stiffness, even fusion of some joints, like the spine. There can also be eye damage, intestinal inflammation, skin problems. It can really affect someone’s quality of life. The body doesn’t like being in chronic inflammation. Controlling the inflammation isn’t just important for the joints, it’s really important for the entire body to bring it back in balance again.”

For people who believe they could have AS, or are looking for an explanation for their joint problems, pharmaceutical company Novartis has a three-minute quiz on their website that people can take to narrow down their symptoms, and Bhana suggests going to see a rheumatologist.

RELATED VIDEO: Dan Reynolds on His Health Battle

For a newly-diagnosed patient, it can be scary to hear that they have a lifetime illness without a cure. Bhana says it’s important to “reassure patients that there’s a way out of their symptoms” with a treatment plan tailored to them.

“The treatment is really individualized depending on the person, but we take a holistic, 360-degree view of that person and focusing heavily on diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and medical management,” he says. “But there really is no pill substitute for the diet and lifestyle changes. That has the biggest impact on people’s well-being. We try to analyze their routine and what could contribute to the inflammation. Everybody’s a little bit different.”

With a revamp of their lifestyle, AS sufferers can significantly reduce their pain and inflammation, as Reynolds has been able to do with the help of his rheumatologist.

“It’s important for people to have someone guiding them through this illness, especially as now, in 2019, there’s no cure,” Bhana says. He hopes to bring greater awareness of AS to improve the diagnosis and treatment options for patients.

“There are other diseases that have much more notoriety, but with AS it can be so different for each patient,” he says. “Anything to get that out in the open, to get people aware for diagnosis and research, is vitally important.”

Stan Lee's Avengers: Endgame Cameo Is His Last 'Committed to Film,' Say Directors

Stan Lee's Avengers: Endgame Cameo Is His Last 'Committed to Film,' Say Directors

Fans will get to see the beloved Stan Lee one last time in Avengers: Endgame.

The late comic book writer and Marvel universe creator died in Nov. 2018 at 95, but his memory will live on in the upcoming epic that will close out the first 11 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It’s his last one committed to film,” co-director Joe Russo told Mashable. “I have to say, I think it’s astonishing that this would be his last cameo. It’s just kind of mind-boggling that he made it to the end of this run. I can’t believe it.”

Before Lee died, the creator filmed one last cameo for Endgame, closing out his beloved run as cameo king with a bang. Lee’s first cameo happened all the way back in 1989 in the TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. He went on to appear in every major movie that featured his adored characters, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men movies.

His last cameo came in Captain Marvel last month, and the movie honored him by replacing the opening Marvel logo with all shots of his cameos from previous films.

Lee’s final public appearance came in April 2018, when he hit the red carpet for Avengers: Infinity War.

The fourth film in the franchise, Avengers: Endgame, hits theaters April 26. The 3-hour flick will follow the remaining Avengers as they try to reverse the outcome of Infinity War when Thanos snapped away half the world’s population.

Pre-Cut Melon Pulled From Kroger, Walmart and Other Groceries After It's Linked to Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

Pre-Cut Melon Pulled From Kroger, Walmart and Other Groceries After It's Linked to Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

Pre-packaged melons linked to a salmonella outbreak that has so far sickened nearly 100 people have been recalled, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control said in a statement that the fruits, distributed by Caito Foods, have been pulled from shelves by the company in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“Caito Foods, LLC, of Indianapolis, Ind., has recalled products containing pre-cut melons because they are potentially contaminated with Salmonella,” the statement read. “Additionally, Caito Foods, LLC has temporarily suspended producing and distributing these products.”

The outbreak was linked to cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers at stores like Kroger, Target, Walmart, and Amazon/Whole Foods under various labels.

The FDA said the source of the melons has yet to be identified, but it is investigating shipping records to try and determine the origin of the contaminated melons.

So far, 93 people have been sickened and 23 hospitalized, although there have been no reported deaths.

The last case to be reported was March 31, and the states containing affected patients are Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The FDA advises customers in affected states to toss the fruit in the trash, especially if they are unsure as to whether it is a Caito product.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, with more severe cases facing high fever, aches, headaches, lethargy, rashes, and blood in the urine or stool.

Illness and fever typically last four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.

The outbreak follows a January warning from the CDC not to get too close to hedgehogs, as the animals were the suspected cause of a multi-state salmonella outbreak that affected 17 people.

Justin Timberlake Applauds 'NSYNC's Coachella Performance with Ariana Grande: 'You Guys Killed'

‘NSYNC’s Coachella reunion was Justin Timberlake-approved.

Although Timberlake, 38, didn’t join his bandmates for their surprise performance with Ariana Grande during her Sunday night Coachella set, the Man of the Woods singer made sure to cheer his pals on from a distance.

Sharing a photograph of Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick cozying up to the 25-year-old pop star backstage, Timberlake sent his congratulations.

“You guys killed it last night,” he wrote on Monday, adding a raised hands emoji.

Days after Grande began dropping hints that the boy band would make an appearance during her set, the group walked out to perform with Grande on her hit song “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” which samples “It Makes Me Ill,” an old ‘NSYNC song from their 2000 album, No Strings Attached.

“I’ve been waiting all my motherf—ing life to say this: ‘NSYNC,” Grande said before she and the group performed the 1997 classic, “Tearin’ Up My Heart.”

“Coachella, this has been a dream of ours, thank you Ariana!” the band added.

The group went on to thank Grande for inviting them to perform — and giving them a chance to share the stage with each again.

The whole band, including Timberlake, previously reunited at their Walk of Fame ceremony last April. However, while every member got a chance to share their appreciation for each other in a series of speeches, the group didn’t sing any of their old hits.

Prior to that joyful occasion, the last time all five men got together was to celebrate Chasez’s 40th birthday bash in August 2016.

The day before ‘NSYNC’s Coachella appearance, Timberlake wrapped up his Man of the Woods tour after over a year on the road — and to honor the occasion, Jessica Biel shared a sweet video to congratulate her husband.

“Hey Tennessee kid, I’m being quiet because you’re in the next room. It’s your last show, it’s the last Man of the Woods show tonight. I would say that I’m so proud of you but I feel like that’s the understatement of the century and that somehow that I take ownership to what you’ve done this past year-and-a-half,” Biel, 37, said.

“I’m just in absolute awe of you every night to see you up there in your glory doing what you’ve been put on this Earth to do,” continued Biel, adding, that while she’s “so happy that you’re going to get some time off” she also felt “so sad that I won’t be able to see you up there again for a while.

Inside Prince George's Playdate with Princess Charlotte and Mia Tindall: 'They Are All Live Wires'

Inside Prince George's Playdate with Princess Charlotte and Mia Tindall: 'They Are All Live Wires'

He may be the future King, but Prince George was just like any other little kid over the weekend as he enjoyed a playdate with his cousins and younger sister, Princess Charlotte.

Five-year-old George, whose blonde locks have gotten a little darker, shared a cute moment with his cousin, Mia Tindall, 5, on the fairgrounds of the Burnham Market international horse trials in Norfolk on Friday.

The royal peered down at Mia, whose mom is Zara Tindall (Prince William’s first cousin!), as they appeared to compare their heights.

“It could have been they were measuring up against each other. But they were all just messing about and playing and joking while their parents chatted,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

RELATED: Princess Charlotte Rides on Kate Middleton’s Shoulders During Fun Family Day with Prince George

The royal playmates, who are just six months apart, had fun with their parents — Prince William, Kate Middleton and Zara and Mike Tindall — before George joined his sister Princess Charlotte, who turns 4 on May 2, for a ride on the bumper cars and slides.

Zara and Mike’s youngest daughter, Lena, who turns 1 in June, was nearby in her stroller as the older kids periodically went to check on her throughout the day.

“They had been watching Zara (an accomplished equestrian) competing in the showjumping, from the top of a hill and then all ran down a hill together,” the onlooker continues. “They were playing together all. Mia will make friends with anybody!”

Can’t get enough of PEOPLE’s Royals coverage? Sign up for our newsletter to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more!

Their fun and friendly relationship matches that of their parents, Prince William and Zara. The older royal cousins are similar in age. Over the decades, they’ve often been seen at the same royal — and non-formal — occasions from Trooping the Colour to polo matches with their kids.

“Mia seems more outwardly going than George,” the source adds.

William, who is one of Mia’s godparents — gave Mia a ride on his shoulders at one point, while Zara’s husband, Mike Tindall took George on his shoulders as the young prince played with a toy sword.

“They are all live wires, with loads of energy,” the onlooker says.

Parents of S.C. Student Killed After Getting into Wrong Car Want to Improve Uber, Lyft Safety

Parents of S.C. Student Killed After Getting into Wrong Car Want to Improve Uber, Lyft Safety

Less than one month after the vicious murder of a University of South Carolina college senior who got into a car she mistakenly believed was an Uber, the young woman’s parents are speaking out about their ordeal — and their fight to improve ride-sharing safety.

Appearing on Monday’s People Now, Seymour and Marci Josephson spoke out about their beloved daughter, Samantha Josephson, and the safety initiatives they are launching in her name.

“She was caring, kind. Everyone thought she was their best friend,” Marci recalled of her daughter.

Since their 21-year-old daughter’s death, the Josephsons are working to promote new initiatives that could prevent a similar tragedy from occurring again.

“There are 19 states that do not have a front license plate,” Seymour notes. (South Carolina is one of those states.) “If you’re going to be an Uber or Lyft , make front license plates a mandate.”

Using the hashtag #WhatsMyName, the grieving parents are also pushing for riders to always ask drivers who they’re waiting for — instead of giving their names to the driver upfront. The importance of this was also stated by automotive expert Lauren Fix, whom PEOPLE interviewed after Josephson’s killing.

“Never ask, ‘Are you my ride?,’” Fix told PEOPLE. “When I approach an Uber or a Lyft, I will stand next to the driver’s window, and I will ask them, ‘Who are you waiting for?’” (Fix also recommends looking at your driver’s photo in the app before they arrive, and always waiting for your ride indoors.)

The Josephsons are also pushing for ride-share vehicles to install a QR code system, in which a bar code would be placed on the front window and a rider could use the app to scan the code and determine if it’s the car he or she requested.

Seymour explains: “I can scan my phone, and it turns green if it’s my ride and it turns red if it’s not.”

The South Carolina House of Representatives has already passed a bill requiring ride-share vehicles to display an illuminated sign clearly bearing their company’s logo. This simple first step should make it easier for riders to identify their vehicles, lawmakers hope.

The bill, known as the Samantha L. Josephson Ridesharing Safety Act, recently passed by a vote of 99-1 and was co-sponsored by Rep. Micah Caskey and Rep. Seth Rose. Next, the bill will move to the Senate.

In the early-morning hours of March 29, Josephson, a 21-year-old senior at the University of South Carolina, requested an Uber after becoming separated from her friends at a Columbia bar. Surveillance video footage showed Josephson talking on her phone as she got into the backseat of the Chevrolet Impala she mistakenly believed was her ride-share.

The young woman’s boyfriend, Greg Corbishley, revealed to local station WGHP he was tracking her phone to make sure she was safe, and said he “immediately knew that there was something that was wrong.”

“Unfortunately, I was two and a half hours away,” he said. “I’d do anything to go back.”

Hunters found Josephson’s slain body in the woods the following day, about 70 miles southeast of the Five Points area where she’d gone missing. She died of multiple sharp force injuries.

Nathaniel Rowland, 24, was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping.

The New York Times previously reported that he has pleaded not guilty. PEOPLE was unable to determine who his lawyer was.

Prince Harry's Goddaughter, 9-Month-Old Lena Tindall, Has Grown So Much — See the New Photo!

Prince Harry's Goddaughter, 9-Month-Old Lena Tindall, Has Grown So Much — See the New Photo!

Royal fans finally have their first good look at Lena Tindall!

The 9-month-old daughter of Zara and Mike Tindall had a big outing over the weekend, joining her family at the Burnham Market international horse trials in Norfolk on Saturday. While Mom competed in the annual event, big sister Mia Tindall, 5, played with her cousins Princess Charlotte and Prince George, who were attending with parents Kate Middleton and Prince William.  But the older children made sure to periodically check in on their little cousin, who was bundled up in her stroller wearing a red jacket and colorful mittens.

The Queen’s great-granddaughter appears to have inherited her mother’s blonde locks and blue eyes. Lena’s light-colored hair was also in view at her christening last month as she was carried into St. Nicholas Church by her father. (Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are expecting their first child in the coming weeks, attended to celebrate Harry’s role as Lena’s godfather!)

Mia has already proven to be a doting big sister. At the Gatcombe Park Horse Trials last month, she took breaks from playing with big cousins Savannah Phillips, 8, and Isla Phillips, 6, to visit Lena in her stroller. Mia also rode on the stroller as Mike pushed his daughters around the field.

“They all seem very close,” an observer told PEOPLE of the young royals. “The Phillips girls seem very taken with their new little cousin, and I am sure they will with their new extra cousin when Meghan’s baby arrives.”

When they weren’t getting rides on their parents’ shoulders on Saturday – Princess Charlotte sat atop Kate, while Prince William gave Mia a lift and Prince George swung a toy sword above Mike’s head – the little royals got competitive. George and Mia stood face-to-face, appearing to determine who was taller. (It wasn’t very close, as the brim of Mia’s hat only reached George’s eyebrows!)

Prince Louis, who will turn 1 on April 23, appeared to stay home.

George and Mia have been playing together at polo matches, family gatherings and summer weddings since before they could walk. Nearly four summers ago, they were the center of attention at a polo game at Beaufort Park club, in Gloucestershire, when George – clutching a toy tractor – and Mia were among cousins playing on a grassy bank.

More recently, George, Mia and Charlotte were all in the adorable bridal party at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s October wedding.

Kim Kardashian Slams People Who Say She Can Get a Law Degree Due to 'Privilege' and 'Money'

Kim Kardashian Slams People Who Say She Can Get a Law Degree Due to 'Privilege' and 'Money'

Kim Kardashian West was well aware that her decision to become a lawyer would be met with a collective eyeroll — but she’s not letting that stop her.

In a lengthy Instagram post Monday, the soon-to-be mother of four shut down trolls pointing out that she doesn’t have a college degree.

“Last year I registered with the California State Bar to study law,” she began. “For the next 4 years, a minimum of 18 hours a week is required, I will take written and multiple choice tests monthly. As my first year is almost coming to an end I am preparing for the baby bar, a mini version of the bar, which is required when studying law this way.”

Kardashian West, 38, revealed her career aspirations in a recent interview with Vogue, announcing that she decided last summer to begin a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco, with the goal of taking the bar in 2022.

Though she did attend Pierce College in Los Angeles for some time, she never graduated. However, California, as well as three other U.S. states, offer another path to passing the bar by “reading the law,” or apprenticing with a practicing lawyer or judge. If Kardashian West passes the “baby bar” this summer, she will be given the okay to continue for three more years of study.

“I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case,” Kardashian West wrote on Instagram. “One person actually said I should ‘stay in my lane.’ I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am.”

“The state bar doesn’t care who you are,” she added. “Everyone can take this route if you live in a state where this is allowed.”

“It’s true I did not finish college,” she acknowledged. “You need 60 college credits (I had 75) to take part in ‘reading the law,’ which is an in-office law school being apprenticed by lawyers. For anyone assuming this is the easy way out, it’s not. My weekends are spent away from my kids while I read and study. I work all day, put my kids to bed and spend my nights studying.”

Kardashian West admitted to feeling “overwhelmed” at times but said she gets “the pep talks I need from the people around me supporting me.” And as for anyone who doesn’t believe she’s truly committed to her goal?

“I changed my number last year and disconnected from everyone because I have made this strict commitment to follow a dream of mine,” she said. “It’s never too late to follow your dreams.”

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star also took a moment to thank author and CNN commentator Van Jones. She has been working with Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson, cofounders of #cut50, a national bipartisan advocacy group on criminal-justice reform, for months, visiting prisons, petitioning governors, and attending meetings at the White House.

In addition to Jackson, Kardashian West is being mentored by Erin Haney, #cut50’s policy director and a death-row attorney whose father was a psychologist and prison reformer.

“I want to thank Van Jones for believing in me and introducing me to Jessica Jackson,” Kardashian West wrote. “Jessica along with Erin Haney have taken on the role of my mentors and I am forever grateful to them both putting in so much time with me, believing in me and supporting me through this journey. This week I have a big torts essay due on negligence. Wish me luck.”

Kardashian West’s sisters showered her with support.

“I couldn’t be more proud of you, sister,” commented Kourtney Kardashian, 39.

“I am so proud of you Keeks,” added Khloé Kardashian, 34.

Speaking to Vogue, Kardashian West said in her first year of study, she’s been covering three subjects: criminal law, torts, and contracts.

“To me, torts is the most confusing, contracts the most boring, and criminal law I can do in my sleep,” she said. “Took my first test, I got a 100. Super easy for me.”

“The reading is what really gets me,” she admitted. “It’s so time-consuming. The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”

She also said she doesn’t pay attention to negative comments and actually loves to be underestimated.

“I love to be put in a situation where I can have a conversation with someone who might not be inclined to think much of me,” she said. “Because I can guarantee they will have a different opinion and understand what’s important to me after they’ve met me.”

The Spinner Dolphin Earns its Name in Stunning Footage from Netflix's Our Planet

The Spinner Dolphin Earns its Name in Stunning Footage from Netflix's Our Planet

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a dolphin that can send itself swirling through the air!

Spinner dolphins are one of the many species Netflix’s nature documentary series, Our Planet, captured up close. Watching the clip above, it doesn’t take long to realize how the spinner dolphin got its name. These sea creatures are capable of aerial spins that would make any ballet dancer or figure skater envious.

Our Planet managed to locate a mega-pod of these high-flying mammals and filmed the swimmers underwater and from the air. This pod of roughly 10,000 dolphins is believed to be the largest pod caught on film.

The series is focused on the ways manmade problems affect non-human animals. From climate change to overfishing, these global issues are forcing animals to adapt rapidly to more extreme living situations.

Understandably, not all of what Our Planet has to share is as light-hearted and energetic as this clip. The Netflix show recently caused alarm across the internet for including a scene which showed walruses, driven to climb high cliffs due to a lack of sea ice, falling to their deaths.

Not long after Our Planet premiered, Netflix tweeted out a guide of “some moments animal lovers may want to skip” because of the upsetting content.

Our Planet hopes to encourage humans to make small adjustments in their own lives in an effort to create large, positive changes for the world, said Sophie Lanfear, one of the show’s producers.

Why Melania Trump Is Slamming Vogue and Anna Wintour

Why Melania Trump Is Slamming Vogue and Anna Wintour

Echoing President Donald Trump‘s frequent disapproval of any press he perceives as insulting, First Lady Melania Trump‘s team is criticizing Vogue and its editor, Anna Wintour, after Wintour gave an interview to CNN last week that did not mention Mrs. Trump.

In the sit-down with Christiane Amanpour published on Tuesday, Wintour discussed a wide range of topics including Vogue‘s political coverage, which has largely focused on Democratic figures such as former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

And while Michelle Obama was a regular on the cover during her eight years as first lady — and the magazine has a tradition of photographing incoming first ladies dating back decades — Mrs. Trump, 48, has been an exception. (She did appear on the cover in February 2005 when she married President Trump, who was then a reality TV star.)

Wintour, 69, did not mention Mrs. Trump by name in her CNN interview and discussed her philosophy to political coverage only in broad terms.

“You have to stand up for what you believe in and you have to take a point of view,” Wintour said.

“I think it’s very, very important to have a point of view,” she said. “We profile women in the magazine that we believe in the stand that they’re taking on issues. We support them in the fact that we feel they are leaders. Particularly after the defeat of Secretary Clinton in 2016, we believe that women should have a leadership position and we intend to support them.”

Referring to Obama and Sen. Kamala Harris, a Democratic candidate for the presidency, Wintour said, “These are women we feel are icons and inspiring to women from a global perspective.”

A Fox News video published Friday described Wintour as “overlook” Mrs. Trump.

That same day, in a statement to Fox News and later shared with PEOPLE, Mrs. Trump’s spokeswoman sharply criticized Wintour’s CNN interview and Vogue.

“To be on the cover of Vogue doesn’t define Mrs. Trump, she’s been there, done that long before she was first lady,” Stepanie Grisham said. “Her role as first lady of the United States and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover. This just further demonstrates how biased the fashion magazine industry is, and shows how insecure and small-minded Anna Wintour really is. Unfortunately, Mrs. Trump is used to this kind of divisive behavior.”

Since her husband’s political career launched in earnest in 2015, Mrs. Trump has generally avoided the same incendiary style he has employed on social media and at official events — including frequently attacking others on Twitter. Mrs. Trump’s signature campaign as first lady, “Be Best,” including anti-bullying efforts, which critics have called hypocritical given the president’s behavior.

Mrs. Trump has spoken out in the past about what she feels is unfair scrutiny of her.

“I could say I’m the most bullied person on the world,” she told ABC News last year.

Why Lori Loughlin's 'Only Choice' Was to Plead Not Guilty in College Admissions Scandal

Why Lori Loughlin's 'Only Choice' Was to Plead Not Guilty in College Admissions Scandal

Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband pleaded not guilty Monday to two charges against them in the college admissions cheating scandal — and a legal source close to the couple tells PEOPLE that having rejected an offer for a deal from prosecutors, their plea was “the only choice they’ve got.”

“She probably should have taken the deal, but at the time, she didn’t really realize how serious the charges were,” the source tells PEOPLE.

“More than that, I think she and her lawyers underestimated how motivated the prosecution was. So she didn’t plead, and then they hit her with another charge. Now she’s willing to negotiate, but the prosecution says that the deal is off the table. So the only choice they’ve got is to plead not guilty. That’s all they can do.”

The source confirms to PEOPLE that Loughlin and husband J. Mossimo Giannulli pleaded not guilty to both charges they face: mail fraud and money laundering conspiracy. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison for each charge.

On March 12, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts announced that it had charged 50 people, including Loughlin and fellow actress Felicity Huffman, in the cheating scandal. The two actresses, along with coaches, admissions counselors and parents were accused of such alleged crimes as falsifying SAT scores and lying about the athletic skills of their children.

Huffman has agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, saying, “I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions.”

Loughlin, meanwhile, allegedly wanted her daughters to get into the University of Southern California so badly that she and Giannulli paid approximately $500,000 in bribes to falsely designate their daughters as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew.

Loughlin and Ginnulli have hired a team of high-profile attorneys to represent them in the case.

“They decided to roll the dice,” the legal source told PEOPLE last week about their decision to reject the plea deal, “and it may have been a bad gamble. Now they’re in worse shape than before.”

“ are saying that the only way anyone’s going to escape jail time is if they go to trial and are found not guilty,” the source told PEOPLE. “But they’re saying the they have such meticulous evidence that it would be foolish to take that risk.”

Reps for Loughlin and Giannulli have not returned PEOPLE’s calls for comment.

Man Runs the Boston Marathon in Memory of Fiancée Who Was Stabbed While Training

Man Runs the Boston Marathon in Memory of Fiancée Who Was Stabbed While Training

The Boston Marathon is officially underway, and while each participant has their own reason for running the annual race, Daniel Hincapie is doing it in memory of a love lost too soon.

Hincapie revealed to CBS Boston that he decided to run the Boston Marathon in honor of Wendy Martinez, his fiancée who was stabbed to death in September 2018 while on a run near her Logan Circle home in Washington, D.C.

“I’m confident I’m going to be able to finish,” he said. “I’m going to run in my heart, and I’m quite sure that Wendy is going to be right there next to me, mile by mile.”

Martinez got engaged to Hincapie just a week before she was murdered, PEOPLE previously reported. She had been training for the marathon and was said to have been an “avid runner” that jogged to “release stress,” according to a family statement provided to local TV station WRC last year.

Anthony Crawford, 23, was charged in the stabbing, and police previously said the murder was “unprovoked.” In February, Crawford was found not competent to stand trial, according to NBC Washington. After 30 days of psychiatric treatment and medication, he was ruled competent for trial in March, local outlet WJLA reported. He has not entered a plea.

“It almost feels like I’m running right next to her,” Hincapie said to CBS Boston. “It’s like she’s there. It reminds me a lot of Wendy. She was a very competitive runner, and Boston was her dream.”

Hincapie’s marathon run is for the Lungzi Foundation, which is named after one of the victims of the 2013 Marathon bombings. In addition, he is raising money for an organization that he started in Martinez’s name, dedicated to creating scholarships for women.

“I want people to not be afraid,” he told CBS Boston. “You have to continue running. You have to go out there, and you have to continue pursuing the dreams of your loved ones. These types of events are not going to win. Violence and hate are not going to win.”

Ice and Fire! Composer Ramin Djawadi Shares Secrets Behind the Epic Game of Thrones Theme Song

Ice and Fire! Composer Ramin Djawadi Shares Secrets Behind the Epic Game of Thrones Theme Song

Every so often, a small screen hit gives fans an equally amazing theme song — one that evokes memories of favorite past episodes and stirs up excitement for the ones to come.

Since HBO’s Game of Thrones premiered in 2011, its epic title theme song has done exactly that, while giving fans chills to boot. It was indeed music to fan’s ears as millions of fans who’d waited for two wintry years, tuned in to watch the premiere of the historic show’s eighth and final season. Composer, Ramin Djawadi, 44, tells PEOPLE that the musical magic is thanks in part to a seamless collaboration with Game of Thrones creators, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

“I love David and Dan (and) I love working with them,” Djawadi said. “When I started working on the show, they took me to the effects house where they were creating the visuals for the main title. We watched it and talked about it and that’s really where most of the inspiration came from. We discussed that we wanted the new title to capture the overall mood of the show. Words like ‘adventure’, ‘journey’ and ‘mystery’ were said.”

A careful selection of instruments has also contributed to the success of the theme song, and ultimately, the entire score. To set the show’s haunting tone, Djawadi uses the cello as the backbone for most songs. He says its low range feels “dark and moody”, which matches the tone of the show (what Djawadi refers to as the “musical palette”) perfectly.

The end result was a total masterpiece. Still, Djawadi who’s won an Emmy for his work on Thrones, says the response from fans far exceeded even his wildest expectations.

RELATED: The Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Echoed the First-Ever Episode: See 4 Similarities

“I was very excited when the show was such a hit,” Djawadi said. “I would’ve never dreamed that the next day after the show aired there would be a bunch of cover songs popping up on YouTube. It was incredible to see.”

In fact, fans are so obsessed with the music that a break from it in between seasons just wouldn’t suffice. So last year, Djawadi rounded up a full orchestra and choir and took it on a sold-out tour. Game of Thrones fans across America and Europe were able to relive the show’s most memorable moments set to the sounds of the Djawadi’s music.

The Iranian-German musician says the experience was a personal career high because, as an instrumental film composer with over 100 scores under his belt, including for Marvel films and other hit shows like Westworld, he doesn’t get to perform for the people very often.

“It was really great to see that the fans were so excited and reminded about everything that had happened (in the show),” says Djawadi. “There is something very special that happens when you actually hear the music performed. You really see the musicians play it and their interpretations of it.”

RELATED: Game of Thrones Cast: Then & Now

Despite being an OG Game of Thrones crew member, Djawadi says he doesn’t have a favorite cast member. The production process actually prevents him from seeing Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and the rest of the Game of Thrones squad in action as much as he would like to.

By the time Djawadi steps in to create the score, the episodes have already been shot and are moving swiftly through post-production (which includes sound and special effects work). Next, Djawadi joins Weiss and Benioff for a painstaking screening where they discuss, edit and tweak the details — hence: why the end product is so flawless.

The hardest scene he’s had to score came just last season. “Jon and Dany’s love scene took a little bit to get right,” says Djawadi. “You didn’t want to immediately establish it as a love scene so it took me a minute to create a new melody that at first plays more neutral and then as that relationship develops, grows more emotional and romantic.”

As for the end of an era quickly approaching, Djawadi (who says he’s a big fan of the show himself) is just as emotional as the rest of us. Obviously, Djawadi can’t drop any spoilers, but says he’s “super” excited to show how everything goes down.

“I can’t wait for the viewers to see this.”

Game of Thrones Teases the Fate of Ed Sheeran's Character: 'I Knew I Was a Survivor,' He Jokes

Game of Thrones Teases the Fate of Ed Sheeran's Character: 'I Knew I Was a Survivor,' He Jokes

WARNING: This post contains spoilers from season 8, episode 1 of Game of Thrones.

On Sunday night’s highly anticipated Game of Thrones premiere, fans watched as Jon Snow was finally confronted with his true parentage — but that wasn’t the only reveal that caught our attention.

The episode also seemingly revealed the fate of Ed Sheeran‘s character after his much-maligned cameo. In 2017, the singer made a brief appearance in the season 7 premiere when Arya (Maisie Williams) encountered a group of Lannister soldiers on her way to King’s Landing. Sheeran, who played one of the soldiers, performed a folksy campfire song.

The intimate scene was all part of GoT creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff’s plan to get Sheeran on the show to surprise superfan Williams, according to Vanity Fair.

Though Sheeran’s character was never identified by name, the season 8 premiere appears to have winked at his fate. In one scene, Bronn (Jerome Flynn) was seen in bed with three naked women when the subject of last season’s battle between the Lannister army and Targaryen forces came up.

One of the girls mentioned a certain redheaded soldier named “Eddie,” saying, “ came back with his face burnt right off. He’s got no eyelids now.”

Sheeran, 28, posted a screenshot of the scene’s dialogue on his Instagram Story.

“Thanks @gameofthrones,” he wrote. “I knew I was a survivor x.”

Sheeran previously responded to speculation that that his character had died, telling MTV in 2017, “I doubt I’m going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world.”

“No one wants to see me come back,” he added, referencing some of the criticism he weathered for the cameo.

“I’m cool with it, though,” he said. “I enjoyed it.”

Game of Thrones airs Sundays (9 p.m. ET) on HBO.
