Members of the notorious kidnapping syndicate that specialise in abducting travelers along major expressways in Rivers state, have given reasons they carry out such criminal acivities.Recall that in recent times, reports of travelers being abducted along major roads in Rivers state have made major news headlines.One of the victims of such abductions, Mr Happy, who was kidnapped alongside nine other passengers in a commercial bus on Thursday, April 25th while traveling from Warri to Rivers state, has told newsmen what the kidnappers told them whilst in their hideout.According to Mr Happy, the kidnappers informed them that they resorted to kidnapping because the Federal government and state governments have stopped their amnesty programme. The programme which was introduced by late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua, ensured that militants who surrendered their arms are placed on a monthly stipend of N65, 000. The militants however complained that this has been stopped and in other to survive and make ends meet, they resorted to the criminal act of kidnapping.“They came out of the bush and intercepted the bus. The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, has said that most politicians, particularly state governors, do not trust security officials and would rather go to spiritualists and native doctors otherwise known as Babalawos for protection. Bichi said this when he spoke at the retreat for incoming governors organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) that held in Abuja on Monday April 29th.“I joke with politicians that you people trust the marabouts and babalawos more. Instagram has announced plans to test-run hiding the “like” counts this week as a way to make “a less pressurized environment” on the app. According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, “we want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they’re getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about,” he said during the keynote of F8, Facebook’s annual software developer conference in San Jose, California.   Under the test, the number of people who liked a post will no longer be shown. Users will be able to look at who liked their own post, but they won’t be able to see how many likes someone else’s post got unless they manually count them. A post’s creator will be able to see their own like counts if they choose to do so, Mosseri said.“We don’t want Instagram to feel like a competition. What we aspire to do is lead the fight against online bullying,” Mosseri said. The hidden like count test announcement comes as Instagram expands its efforts to combat online bullying, a problem that plagues many of the app’s younger users.  Two Bureau de Change operators kidnapped, killed anddumped in a septic tankOperatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos State Police command, have arrested three suspected members of a robbery/ kidnap gang, who abducted and murdered two Bureau de- Change operators in Ikorodu, Lagos.   The gang allegedly committed the dastardly act after collecting N1.6 million from their victims:Alhaji Yakubu Musa and Alhaji Hassan Umoru, both from Kebbi state, dumped the corpses in a septic tank located in an abandoned property in Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. The unsuspecting operators were invited by members of the gang on March 14, 2019, to sell dollars to them. However, when they arrived at Trailer park bus-stop, Odogunyan, where the supposed transaction was to take place, they were taken to an abandoned building where they were abducted. Thereafter, they were shot dead with their families members left in the dark over their whereabouts. The Lagos State Police Command boss, CP Zubairu Muazu, directed the officer-in-charge of SARS, CSP Peter Gana, to unearth the circumstance surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to book, thus payment of N1.6 m ransom was traced to a GTB account holder, one Oluwafunke, who was subsequently arrested on March 23, 2019. Though she admitted during an interrogation to have been paid N100,000 for releasing her account for the transaction, she, however, said she was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the transaction.   She mentioned one Olarewaju Oluwatosin, as the person that paid the money into her account. Consequently, 40-year-old Oluwatosin, an Osun state born, was arrested. His arrest further led to those of two suspected members of the gang identified as Mayowa Olaeuni, aka general and Babatunde Idris, 26. Three guns and a cutlass were recovered from the gang, while three others are still on the run according to the Police. During the preliminary investigation, operatives discovered that the gang, most of which members are of the Eiye confraternity, had used the abandoned building as shallow graves where members of rival cult groups who were killed during a fight, were buried.   Among those suspected to have been buried at the shallow graves, were two prominent members of the Aiye cult group. 'Shun corruption in your government' - EFCC boss, IbrahimMagu warnsgovernors-electThe Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 tasked in-coming and returning governors on the need to shun corruption.  He made the charge at the induction ceremony for the governors-elect and their returning colleagues at the State House, Abuja. Magu who was among the panelists at one of the sessions of the event, stated that the twin evils of corruption and terrorism- financing, which have continued to bedevil the country have created a disastrous impact on governance and socio-economic advancement of the country. According to him, "whether we like it or not, corruption and terrorism have become the twin evils, undermining our collective efforts to make Nigeria a truly great country." He further stated that Nigeria's failure to take full advantage of its natural resources could also be attributed to corruption as public office holders are in the habit of constantly pillaging public resources. The anti-corruption czar observed that the country's loss to corruption in the last decade runs into trillions of Naira, noting that a review of the recoveries between 2017 and now, shows that in 2017, the EFCC recovered N473.065billion, $98million, €7million and £294,000, while N236.16billion was recovered in 2018, which give just an insight into what had been stolen so far. The EFCC boss explained that the nexus between corruption and terrorism is that corruption promotes insecurity. "Indeed some development scholars are of the view, which I also subscribe to, that militancy in the Niger Delta and insurgency in the North-east are by-products of corruption," Magu said. He congratulated the governors-elect and urged them to make the fight against corruption a cardinal point in their administrations. Businessman arraigned for N50m bitcoin fraud in Kaduna StateThe Kaduna Zonal office of EFCC has arraigned one Joseph Adigizi Anthony before Justice Mallong Peter of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State for a N50 million fraud. His journey to the dock began when the Kaduna office of the EFCC received a petition alleging that he defrauded members of the public using a business proposal, in which he lured them to invest in Bitcoin through a platform called Bitworld Centre. He promised them good returns on their investment. A petitioner had alleged that she sold her properties and collected loan from a Microfinance Bank to raise the sum of N1,739,000 (One Million Seven Hundred and Thirty Nine Thousand Naira), which the defendant directed her to pay into his personal bank accounts. She later discovered that the business was a fraud. However, efforts to recover her money proved abortive. He was on April 30, 2019 charged with a five-count charge.One of the counts reads: "That you, Joseph Adigizi Anthony, sometimes in 2018 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did with intent to defraud through your personal Guaranty Trust Bank and Access Bank accounts over N50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira) credit turnover as collective investment deposits from one Salome Ambi Mamman and other members of the public by falsely accepting deposits for an unregister business venture with the Security and Exchange Commission of Nigeria called "BITWORLD" using financial proposal documents serving as a "Trainer Bitclub Advantage" and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Same Act."He pleaded "not guilty" to the charges. Prosecuting counsel, S.H. Sa'ad urged the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial while he prayed the defendant be remanded in prison. "We are ready to commence with the trial, and we have two witnesses already in court," Sa'ad said. Defence counsel, Chiedu Gwam, informed the court, that he was not ready for the commencement of trial and pleaded with the court to grant his client bail. Justice Mallong, however, adjourned to May 13, 2019 for hearing of bail application and commencement of trial. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has advised motorists, tricycle operators and other road users against reckless driving, over speeding, as well as to always be vigilant especially when driving through the railway crossings to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.The General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu disclosed this following the unfortunate incident involving a tricycle rider that suddenly rammed into a moving train, while trying to cross the railway crossing around Shina Peters Road, Iju-Ishaga in Ifako Ijaye Local Council Development Area of the State.According to the General Manager, the Agency received the distress call on Tuesday, 30th of April 2019 at about 6:52 am. This prompted the immediate activation of the Agency's Response Team and other stakeholders to the scene of the incident accordingly. "On arrival at the scene of incident, it was gathered that a tricycle with five people on board was involved in the unfortunate incident".He further stated that preliminary investigation gathered at the scene of incident revealed that a tricycle with five people on board had a collision with a moving train resulting to the death of four persons (three adult males and one adult female), while one adult male escape unhurt.The Agency's Response Team and other stakeholders, which includes Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, (LNSC) Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) were responders at the incident scene.The dead bodies were recovered and handed over to State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) to be moved to the mortuary.Tiamiyu noted that the incident, could have been avoided if road traffic rules were strictly adhered to by the tricycle operator. The Christian Association of Nigeria, Northern State chapter, has  reacted to the news of the Federal government securing the release of Zainab Aliyu, the Nigerian lady that was wrongly detained in Saudi Arabia for trafficking Tramadol. In a statement released by its public relations officer, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said the Christian body while celebrating Zainab's release, expressed concerns over the continued detention of Leah Sharibu, the only Dapchi school girl still in Boko Haram captivity since her abduction with 109 of her school mates in February 2018. Reverend Hayab in the statement, said he rejoices with the family of Zainab Aliyu over her safe return but is forced to ask if some Nigerians are more important than others since the Federal government was fast in ensuring the safe return of Zainab. The statement in part readsCAN Northern states rejoices with the parents of Zainab Aliyu and the government of our country for securing her release after she was arrested and detained in Saudi Arabia for allegations of drug trafficking.It is sad that many innocent Nigerians are suffering for a crime they know nothing about. This prompt effort by government is commendable and should be sustained for all and in the future, because this is what we want to see from our leaders in this country.But as we rejoice about this development, we are also compelled to ask this important question: Are all Nigerians equal or some are more equal than others?We are aware that many innocent citizens of our country have been arrested, some killed and others are still in detention; but we have not heard any directives from Mr. President to his Attorney General to take action about them with this kind of urgency.If we want our citizens to be proud of their government and country, then we need to show equal concern about what happens to everyone in this country. We cannot also celebrate the release of Zainab and forget Leah Sharibu who did not commit any crime but has been in captivity for over a year now.We, therefore, appeal to President Buhari to direct his security agencies to double their efforts and get Leah released and reunited with her parents. Five soldiers killed, dozens missing as Boko Haram members reportedly overrun Nigerian military base in Borno

No fewer than five Nigerian soldiers have been killed and many others declared missing after members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, overran a military base manned bymen of the Nigerian Army 254 Task Force Battalion under the 25 Task Force Brigade in Borno State.  The insurgents entered the base in a convoy of 15 gun trucks, officials said.  Adedeji Williams Adenuga, the man suspected to have set his ex-girlfriend's family of nine ablaze in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, has explained the reason for his action. After a quarell with his ex-lover, the aggrieved man brought a jerrycan of fuel in the midnight, gained entrance into the building by breaking a window, and sprayed the family while they were asleep. Adenuga, best known as 'Ojuode' escaped from the town after perpetrating the alleged act; however, after "round-the-clock investigations" by the Police, he was arrested on Monday evening in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, where he was wandering under a bridge.   Speaking with reporters at the headquarters of the Ondo State Police Command in Akure on Tuesday, Adenuga said he burnt the family of his ex-girlfriend after she aborted a pregnancy she had for him.  He claimed he had invested heavily in the lady before she jilted him based on her elder sister's advice.   He narrated how both of them had been having relationship issues, and were always ending up at the police station for settlement.  "What actually happened was that Titi aborted the four-month-old pregnancy that she had for me while we were dating each other. Though, we have been having issues in recent times, I have spent a lot of money on her. I gave her a sum of N30,000 to start a petty trade, as she was selling sachet water. Later, I gave her a sum of N25,000 to keep for me, making N55,000 but I think she spent the money lavishly because she was staying with me.  And while she was staying with me, I spent money on her because there is this her elder sister called Jumoke who used to collect money from me. The elder sister was always controlling her and teaching her what to do, and the issue became open that we dragged one another to the police station."We later resolved all the issues but surprisingly, Titi packed her property out my house, saying her sister said I should come and pay N20,000 for her dowry before she would return. I begged them to give me time to look for money, and do the needful but they refused and started playing me, having spent so much for her. I went to the station to report what she and her elder sister were doing to me but the Police saw it as a small issue so they settled it.  "After we left the station, they began to abuse me and make jest of me, saying I was a failure and not even a man for dragging them to the police station. In fact, they threatened me. They said they would deal with me and even kill me if I did not desist from reporting them on the streets. I saw those words as big threats. That same day, I planned to take an action and I went to the gas station at night, bought fuel and stormed their house and poured petrol inside the room while I ran away” he said.Undie Adie, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, said that Adenuga was apprehended following “intense manhunt and investigations" by the Police.  "He was arrested in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State. The girl whom he said jilted him is the only one that survived. Fire captain who sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl, says he thought she was an adultA fire captain in Arizona accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl while “extremely intoxicated” has claimed he thought she was an adult.According to court documents obtained by the Arizona Republic, 48-year-old Michael William Palmatier allegedly told a colleague at the Gilbert Fire Department that he did things he could not take back during a relative’s 50th birthday party at a home in Queen Creek on April 21, Palmatier told the co-worker during a recorded call that he took a prescription muscle relaxer earlier that day after hurting his neck during a sex act with his adult girlfriend, the court documents claim.Palmatier, who resigned after his arrest Wednesday, allegedly recalled going into a bedroom during the party while off-duty and starting to kiss the victim, not fully aware of what he was thinking.The colleague then told Palmatier that the victim was 8-years-old, prompting him to repeatedly curse before crying and apologizing, according to the Republic.Palmatier then said “he let his demons get out,” the court records claim.In another recorded call, Palmatier allegedly said he went into the bedroom because he “sexually desired” one of the adults at the party, but claimed he would never victimize a child, saying he thought he was kissing someone’s mouth.“Michael admitted the entire thing was wrong but he would never knowingly do anything sexually to a juvenile,” the records allege, according to the Republic.“He also commented, ‘Yeah I have a sick side to me, like a sexually sick side to me, but not in that way.’”Palmatier allegedly later acknowledged that children “don’t make s–t like that up,” but insisted that he thought he was kissing an adult’s mouth rather than the girl’s genitals.The veteran fire captain of nearly 20 years was arrested Wednesday on charges of suspicion of sexual contact with a minor, kidnapping and indecent exposure, according to the newspaper.The girl, who was asleep at the time, awoke to a man performing a sex act on her before she escaped the bed and ran into a nearby bathroom, court documents claim.The girl’s aunt told investigators that her niece told her a “man had removed his pants and underwear and licked her.”Witnesses at the party said they saw Palmatier “abruptly leave” the birthday bash, leading one male family friend to later confront him at his home.“Michael answered the door and appeared to be extremely intoxicated,” the records read, according to the Republic.Palmatier then asked the man if he was upset, before allegedly repeating, “I f–ked up.”Palmatier, who has been released from custody, was ordered by a judge to wear an electronic monitoring device ahead of his next court appearance on May 1, the Republic reports.The post Fire captain who sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl, says he thought she was an adult appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
