New Ebola case emerges in Liberia months after eradication

New Ebola case emerges in Liberia months after eradication

GENEVA, Switzerland, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old boy in Liberia has been diagnosed with Ebola two months after the country was declared free from the virus.

Dr. R. Bruce Aylward of the World Health Organization announced the development during a press conference Friday in Geneva.

"About 24 hours ago, we learned of a new case in Liberia," Aylward said. "This is a 10-year-old boy who became sick on the 14th of November and who was confirmed yesterday as Ebola virus-positive."

Aylward, the executive director of outbreaks and health emergencies at WHO, said he didn't have detailed information about the boy.

"The child has no known history of contact with a survivor," he said. "But as the investigation goes forward...we will start to see more clarity." The boy's family is being tested for the virus, he said.

Liberia was first declared Ebola-free in early May before reporting four new cases weeks later. The country was most recently declared liberated from the epidemic on Sept. 3. This is the first case of Ebola that is not believed to be associated with the initial 2014 outbreak.

5 Weight Loss Diets

5 Weight Loss Diets

1. Lighten up your mayonnaise

Swapping your regular mayonnaise for a lower-fat version can save significant calories. Light mayonnaise reduces calories per tablespoon to 35 or so, and total fat to between 3 and 4 grams per serving. Low-fat or reduced-fat varieties usually cut calories and fat to 15 and about 1 gram, respectively.
Going from 90 calories per tablespoon to 15 is a significant reduction, and when it comes to losing weight over the long term, these are the kinds of changes that really add up.

2. Try bacon of Canadian descent.

Swapping one ounce of American bacon for Canadian bacon saves 100 calories, 9 grams of total fat, 3 grams of saturated fat, and 285 milligrams sodium. That is an incredible difference in nutritional composition for an incredibly simple change, and Canadian bacon also makes a wise swap for other meats like pepperoni.
Swapping your bacon is an excellent example of how you don’t have to completely abandon your dietary preferences to get big benefits.
