As incredible as he is, The Hulk almost perished during Avengers: Infinity War, as Mark Ruffalo recently revealed during his press tour for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
Ruffalo, 51, told Yahoo! that while Bruce Banner made it out of the 2018 blockbuster film alive, a second ending was shot, and it didn’t involve the original Avenger surviving.
The scene, which had Banner disintegrating into dust, was ultimately left out of the film, but Ruffalo did not know which fate his character would ultimately face until he actually watched the film.
“I didn’t know until I saw the movie,” he told Yahoo!. “For one take, I did disappear, and then the other one I didn’t.”
While Banner’s fate may potentially not be as lucky in Endgame, he survived the bloodbath of Infinity War alongside his fellow original six Avengers, although Ruffalo wasn’t so sure he would make it out alive.

“I was pretty sure it was gonna be me,” Ruffalo continued. “It’s like Survivor. It’s like, who’s gonna get kicked off the island? And I probably should’ve. … It’s like Project Runway for leakers.”
Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo have previously taken measures to avoid spoilers and leaks, so the decision to film a fake scene is unsurprising. In fact, Spider-Man himself Tom Holland wasn’t even given a script for Avengers: Endgame due to his history of sharing spoilers.

The Hulk, along with original Avengers Iron-Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Thor, will finish the epic battle against Thanos after most of their fellow allies perished at the end of Infinity War. Avengers newcomer Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, will join them in what is one of the most widely anticipated films ever.
Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26.
